One day by the sea – Southend, UK

Chtěli jsme jet na výlet k moři, tak nás automaticky napadl Brighton – klasika. Ale kvůli opravě železniční trati, by byla cesta zbytečně komplikovaná. Proto jsme otevřeli mapu a rozhodli se zkusit něco nového.

We wanted to go for a trip tho the seaside, so Brighton was our first thought . But a railway re-construction would made our way there complicated. So we looked at a map and decided to try something different . (eng. lower)

Zaujalo nás město Southend on sea, doprava snadná, jízdenky levné a tak jsme jeli.

Southend je přímořské městečko v Essexu, nachází se v ústí řeky Temže a má 178 000 obyvatel.

Když jsme vystoupili z vlaku, vydali jsme se hlavní ulicí lemovanou mnoha renomovanými obchody směrem k moři. Můj první dojem byl, že město doslova září. Bílé budovy, stříbrné moře a jasné slunce. Znáte to?

O městu jsme si předem nic nezjistili, rádi jen tak objevujeme bez předchozích očekávání. Velmi nás proto překvapilo, že se zde nachází nejdelší molo na světě (2,158 km/1,341 miles). A tak jsme si ho nemohli nechat ujít.

Za poplatek £2.00 si můžete užít krásnou (dlouhou) procházku po molu, na jehož konci se nachází RNLI stanice (Royal national lifeboat institution), občerstvení a obchůdek se suvenýry (jejichž koupí podpoříte činnost záchranářů, kteří zachraňují lidi na moři). Procházka s nádherným výhledem kolem je naprosto fantastická! Pokud se vám nechce jít pěšky, můžete si za £3.80 koupit vstupenku, při které tam jdete a zpět se vezete vláčkem. Nebo £4.30 můžete jet vláčkem tam i zpět.

A protože u vody jednomu vyhládne a co lepšího si dát u moře než rybu, přišel čas na fish and chips 🙂

Vybrali jsme si Bailey´s Fry Inn a můžeme směle doporučit dál.

Obrovská porce smažené tresky s hranolkami byla úspěšně zdolána a my vyrazili na procházku podél pobřeží.

Miluju moře a sbírání mušliček a kamínků (klasika 😀 ), takže program na další dvě hodiny byl naprosto jasný :).

A co dělám se všemi těmi mušličkami, kamínky a klacíky, které najdu u moře? Dala jsem dohromady suvenýry z Rhodosu, Lisabonu, Southendu a Brightonu a vzniklo toto:

Ve městě je toho spousta k vidění, u pobřeží najdete lunapark a spoustu heren, restaurace i útulné hospůdky. V centru jsme viděli spoustu obchodů, ale tam jsme moc času nestrávili, protože my máme radši moře.

We were interested  to visit Southend on sea, transport there was simple, tickets were cheap, so we decided to go.

Southend is city by the sea in Essex, situated in estuary of river Thames and it has 178 000 citizens.

When we got out of the train, we went trough the main street which was lined by fancy shops. My first impression was, the city is shining! White buildings, silver sea and bright sun. Do you know it?

We have not read any info about the city, because we like to explore without any expectations. That was why we were nicely surprised, the longest pleasure pier in the world is situated here (2,158 km/1,341 miles). We could not miss it.

With  £2.00 entrance fee you can enjoy wonderful (long) walk on pier, on its end there is RNLI station (Royal national lifeboat institution), snack bar and shop with souvenirs (if you buy any, you will support work of RNLI rescue teams, who save lives on sea). Walk with amazing view was for us fantastic! If you don´t want to go by foot, you can buy combined ticket £3.80 – one way by foot, way back by train. Or you can go by train both ways for £4.30.

And because when you are by the sea, you get quickly hungry, and what better you can eat there than fish, our fish and chips time came 🙂

Big portion of fried cod with chips was succesfuly finished and went for a walk on a beach.

Collecting shells 🙂

I love sea and collecting sea shells and stones (nothing new :D), so our programme for next two ours was clear :).And what I do with all that shells and stones what I find on the sea shore? I put it all together – Rhodos, Lisabon, Sounthend and Brighton stuff and this is the result:

Some inspiration

In the town ther is a lot of things to see, on the sea shore there is an amusement park, lot of game rooms, restaurants and cosy pubs. In the center of the town we saw many shops, but we did not spent any time there, we prefere sea much more.
